Case Study #3 - "Psychology practice"

The challenge

A psychologist wanted a secure online way for his patients to journal their daily thoughts. (This is a common method used to assist patients in working through their issues.) The psychologist wanted to be able to check in on the journal (with the patients’ full consent and knowledge) so he could track clients’ progress.

The desired outcomes

Firstly, a method to safely share client journals was critical. Secondly, having the ability to respond sooner to any potential “red flags” meant the psychologist was able to schedule appointments sooner to focus on areas that needed addressing with the client. Finally, and most importantly, the psychologist wanted the patients to become more aware of their own thought processes and easily be able to look back on their own journals such that they could be reminded of their positive progress.

The solution

Lifetick comes with a Journal that can be used to record text or specific “Trackers”. Trackers are items that can be reported on and graphed. They can be financial, numerical, text based or binary (1,0). Whilst goal setting wasn’t the primary focus for the psychologist, just having a secure, online journal his clients could update any time of the day or night was an enormous benefit. As their therapist, he had the ability to quickly create an account for a client and an email would automatically be sent to them with their log in details. From there, the psychologist was able to access each clients’ journal securely himself and send and receive messages within the app. As a secure online tool with SSL encryption, both the psychologist and the clients had peace of mind regarding security and privacy - a critical element in the health profession.

The feedback

Regardless of a person’s needs, journal writing has long been regarded as a worthwhile exercise. Most significant players throughout history have diligently recorded journals, many of which we benefit from reading today. For this to extend to healthcare professionals and their patients is highly satisfying for us and we hope its use in this area grows and provides benefit to those in need.
